Alabama Touring Artist Program
Arts in Education

The Alabama Touring Artist Program (ATAP) is designed to provide opportunities to resident performing artists or performing ensembles to be showcased on a limited tour of engagements at a number of sites throughout Alabama’s rural school districts. Artists/ensembles performing in theatre music and dance are invited to apply to this program annually during May. Artists who would like to receive an invitation to participate should contact the PA Program Manager at yvette.jones-smedley@arts.alabama.gov

Applications must include a headshot/photograph (300 dpi minimum). Selected participants will be booked at 4 – 5 different sites to present a 40-45 minute performance/lecture demonstration. Participants are required to attend ATAP Orientation and will be expected to develop a study guide that will help teachers connect the performance to on-going curriculum through preparation and follow-up activities. Artist’s fees for each performance are provided by the Alabama State Council on the Arts. All performances will be scheduled between January and June.

Important Information For In-School Performances

In-school performances are held during the school day for the entire school body. A maximum of two back-to-back performances at the same fee may be required to accommodate large numbers of students and small performance facilities.
