in Alabama
MONTGOMERY, Ala., (May
25, 2023) — The Alabama State
Council on the Arts has been approved for a $969,625 National
Endowment for the Arts Fiscal Year 2023 Partnership Agreement to address
priorities identified at the state level. These funds will support the arts in
areas such as cultural tourism, community revitalization, economic development,
education, and health and human services. The NEA also awarded $276,266 in grants to
six Alabama organizations: Birmingham Children’s
Theatre, Arts Huntsville, Alabama Folklife Association, Mobile Symphony,
Alabama State University, and the University of Alabama.
“The National Endowment for the Arts is pleased to support a wide
range of projects, demonstrating the many ways the arts enrich our lives and
contribute to healthy and thriving communities,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario
Jackson, PhD. “These organizations play an important role in advancing the
creative vitality of our nation and helping to ensure that all people can benefit
from arts, culture, and design.”
“Support from the National Endowment for the Arts is vital to
enriching Alabama’s artistic landscape,” said Elliot Knight, PhD, the Council’s
executive director. “The Council on the Arts regrants 100% of these federal
funds to Alabama arts organizations, meaning this investment in the arts goes
directly back into communities across the state.”
In addition to
applying for grants offered by the Council on the Arts, arts organizations and
artists throughout Alabama are encouraged to stay informed about the National
Endowment for the Arts grant programs and submit applications directly to the

About
Alabama State Council on the Arts
The Council on the Arts is the official state
agency for the support and development of the arts in Alabama. The Council
works to expand and preserve the state’s cultural resources by supporting
nonprofit arts organizations, schools, colleges, units of local government, and
individual artists. Arts programs, assisted by Council grants, have a track
record of enhancing community development, education, cultural tourism, and
overall quality of life in all regions of the state. Alabama State Council on the Arts grants are
made possible by an annual appropriation from the Alabama Legislature and
additional funds from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal
agency. Learn more at arts.alabama.gov.
