State Council on the Arts to Receive $853,725 Partnership Award from the National Endowment for the Arts

NEA also announces grants to arts organizations in Alabama

MONTGOMERY, Ala., (March 31, 2022) — The Alabama State Council on the Arts has been approved for a $853,725 National Endowment for the Arts Fiscal Year 2022 Partnership Agreement to address priorities identified at the state level. These funds will support the arts in areas such as cultural tourism, community revitalization, economic development, education, and health and human services. The NEA also awarded $80,000 to four Alabama organizations in the Birmingham area: Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Create Birmingham, Sidewalk Film Center and Cinema, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

“Through our work with state and regional partners, the National Endowment for the Arts can extend its impact, reaching even more communities throughout the nation, providing opportunities for all of us to live artful lives,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “The arts contribute to our individual well-being, the well-being of our communities, and to our local economies. The arts are also crucial to helping us make sense of our circumstances from different perspectives as we emerge from the pandemic and plan for a shared new normal informed by our examined experience.”

“Support from the National Endowment for the Arts is vital to enriching Alabama’s artistic landscape,” said Elliot Knight, PhD, the Council’s Executive Director. “The Council on the Arts regrants 100% of these federal funds to Alabama arts organizations, meaning this investment in the arts goes directly back into communities across the state.”

In addition to applying for grants offered by the Council on the Arts, we encourage arts organizations and artists throughout Alabama to stay informed about the National Endowment for the Arts grant programs and submit applications directly to the NEA to seek support for future projects and endeavors.
