Gary T. Whitley, Jr.
Huntsville

Gary T. Whitley, Jr., is a Huntsville resident and currently serves as the Community Relations Manager for Huntsville Utilities. In this role, Gary is responsible for internal communications and external community relations. A native of Detroit, MI, Gary relocated to Huntsville after receiving a music scholarship to attend Alabama A&M University where he sang in the University Choir and earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science. Although Gary spent his formative years in Michigan, you would not know that he isn’t a native Alabamian. Like so many, his family roots are from Alabama, and he has embraced the rich cultural diversity of our great state. In addition to his previous service on the Arts Huntsville Board, Gary has a vast appreciation and knowledge for the arts. While he considers himself a retired singer, he appreciates all of the art forms and can be seen around Huntsville and the region supporting local arts and humanities events/programs.

During his two decades in Huntsville, Gary has served on the Board of Directors for Arts Huntsville, including one year as its Board Chair. Additionally, he also serves on the Board of Directors for Huntsville’s Community Foundation, the Rosetta James Foundation and serves as Chairman of the Delta Theta Lambda Education Foundation. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, Incorporated and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Committed to community and civic service, Gary is a graduate of Leadership Alabama Initiative, Leadership Greater Huntsville/Madison County – Connect Class 8 and he also serves on the City of Huntsville Planning Commission as Vice-Chairman.
