Lisa Blach Weil, Alexander City
Chair of the Council

Lisa Blach Weil was reappointed to the Alabama State Council on the Arts by Governor Kay Ivey in 2017 to fill the remaining term of Council member Will Sellers, who was appointed to the Alabama Supreme Court.

Mrs. Weil is active in various charitable and community activities. She has served on the Red Cross of Central Alabama board since 1982. She has held virtually every position including tri-chair of the capital campaign and was named the organization’s first female board chair. She received the Red Cross Volunteer of the Year Award and twice received its Distinguished Service Award.

Currently, Mrs. Weil is on the advisory board of the Montgomery Area Zoological Society, where she was responsible for spearheading Ballet and the Beast, a free production by Montgomery Ballet, and helped found the children’s area through the Junior League of Montgomery.

Mrs. Weil is also a member of Alabama Shakespeare Festival’s board, in which she previously served as chairperson of the ‘Armchair Auction’ committee. In addition, she is on the University of Alabama‘s Board of Visitors for the College of Communication & Information Sciences. Mrs. Weil graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in public relations and a minor in speech communications.

A previous board member of Temple Beth Or, she remains an active member of the synagogue and is an engaged Sisterhood member, previously serving as the Sisterhood’s president and chairing or co-chairing many of its committees.

She is the current chair of the Council on the Arts, and previously served on the long-range planning committee, helping to create new long-range goals for the next 10-year cycle.
